"Walking By Faith"

There is a beautiful song called "By Faith" that speaks of walking by faith and not by sight. It is written by Keith & Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townend.

A few of the words include:

"By faith we see the hand of God
In the light of creation's grand design
In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness
Who walk by faith and not by sight

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul's reward
Till the race is finished and the work is done
We'll walk by faith and not by sight. "

This morning as I was getting ready for work, I heard myself humming "By Faith." I was saying the words in my mind, but realized I had transposed the words. I was saying, "We'll walk by sight and not by faith."

As I thought about my mistake, I realized that the way I said the words was probably a more honest phrasing. We call ourselves "children of faith." We say we believe. But, more often, we don't believe until or unless we see. A sign of our non-belief is that we don't act on our supposed faith.

It was Thomas who asked to see the signs of the crucifixion on Christ's body. When he saw the nail scars, Thomas believed. Jesus said it is better to believe without needing the visible evidence.

When the disciples were in the boat and a storm broke out, they became afraid that they wouldn't make it to the shore. They needed to see the storm calmed and the boat arriving on the far side of the water. Belief in their safety before being safely on the shore wasn't happening. They were in the boat "walking" by sight and not by faith.

So today are you walking by sight or by faith?

The chorus of "By Faith" says,

"We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul's reward
Till the race is finished and the work is done
We'll walk by faith and not by sight."

Today, are you walking by faith? Do your actions prove it?
