In today's world, "salt" is almost a bad word. We're always hearing about too much salt in our diet.
But, salt still preserves. Salt still seasons for good taste. When it is used properly, salt still does the job it is designed to do and helps keep appetites healthy.
The Bible talks about salt in Matthew 5:13: "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men."
Are you concerned about whether you are still "salt" to the world? That concern is a good sign. And, we should be concerned.
Table salt is to be used sparingly. But as Christians, we don't need to worry about being too much salt. We will never be a majority in this present world. However, we don't want to pour the whole container of salt down someone's throat. We need to allow them to digest what has been presented and be sure it is seasoned with love.
Every time you salt some food, think of your relationship to Christ and offer a quick prayer to be "salt" to this needy world. Bring a little flavor and preservation to your neighbors who are in need.
