Shelia Shares....
"Don't Give Up"

Recently when I again heard the song by Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, "Help Is On The Way," I heard a phrase that I hadn't caught before.

The chorus written by Michael Reed says:

"Just hold on a little longer, help is on the way.
A brighter day is coming for those who believe and pray.
Help won't help tomorrow if you give up today.
Just hold on a little longer, help is on the way."

The phrase, "Help won't help tomorrow if you give up today," caught my attention.

Sometimes things just look too bleak to hold on. The job you might lose causes unbelievable fear. The financial situation makes you lose hope of ever having enough. The shrinking size of your church makes you wonder whether it is all worthwhile to keep the doors open. The straying child or the distant spouse make you feel so alone and hurt.

Spiritually, we can also feel like giving up. When you've talked to someone about Jesus and been rejected, you don't want to do it again. You fear the same rejection.

But, "help won't help tomorrow if you give up today." Maybe the person just needs to see your loving, Christian example one more time. Maybe the next time you speak of Jesus, the Holy Spirit will bring conviction and they'll accept Jesus or turn back to Him. We never know.

We need to hold on through all of life's difficulties. We need to hold on hold on to Jesus. We need to know the proper person to hold on to and we need to persist. "Help won't help tomorrow if you give up today. Just hold on a little longer, help is on the way."
