Paul's Epistle...
"Even One Life"

About twenty-five years ago, a young lady named Pam and her husband, Robert, were serving as American missionaries to the Philippines. God had already blessed them with four children — two boys, two girls — and now they were praying for a fifth child.

But then, unexpectedly, Pam contracted a life-threatening infection – amoebic dysentery. It's an infection of the intestine caused by a parasite found in contaminated food or drink. Pam lapsed into a coma and the doctors treated her with strong antibiotics and other medicines to rouse her from her coma.

But then doctors discovered she was, indeed, pregnant with her fifth child. The effect on the unborn child was immediate. Doctors said the pre-born baby experienced a "severe placental abruption." They expected a stillbirth. And they recommended an abortion – even though abortions were illegal at the time in the Philippines.

Pam refused the doctors' urgings. She was a Christian, and said God would intervene. Four times she almost lost the baby. Pam spent the last two months of her pregnancy in bed. But still she refused to consider an abortion.

Pam says she and her husband made a pledge to God: "If you will give us a son, we'll name him Timothy and we'll make him a preacher."

God honored that pledge. Nearly a quarter-century later, Timothy is in extremely robust health and is, indeed, a preacher. He preaches in prisons, makes hospitals visits and serves with his father's ministry in the Philippines. In fact, his ministry has become so well-known that seldom does a week go by – especially this time of the year – that his name is not in every major newspaper in America.

Of course, you may know him as something other than a preacher. You may know him as an extraordinary football player. You know him as Tim Tebow, quarterback for the Denver Broncos.

Recommended to be aborted before he was even born, God obviously had quite different plans for this young man. He gained a lot of attention for painting "3:16" – as in John 3:16 – into the black swaths under his eyes during his college career. In one recent NFL game (January 8), Tebow passed for exactly 316 yards and averaged 31.6 yards for each completed pass. Immediately, "John 3:16" was the hottest search term on the internet.

The world would be missing a powerful evangelist if abortion proponents had had their way. Then again, had they known God's plans for this man, they might have tried even harder.

God hates abortion. There is no other way to say it. Scripture is full of life. God created life. God created mankind — all of human life — to have a special fellowship with Him. This pro-life God is the author of the pro-life commandment, "You shall not murder" (Ex. 20:13). God said, " not kill the innocent...for I will not justify the wicked" (Ex. 23:7). Jesus, the Author of life (John 1:3), says that, contrary to those who come "to kill and to destroy," He came that we "may have life, and ... have it more abundantly" (John 10:10).

Each year in the United States alone, more than 1.2 million children lose their lives at the hands of abortionists. That's 1,200,000 children whose lives are snuffed out before they get to take their first breath! Since the infamous Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973, more than 53 million pre-born children in the United States have lost their lives to abortion. 53 million is a huge number. In fact, I'm told that if you added up the population totals of the 25 states with smallest individual populations it actually totals less than 53 million!

Think of it: We've lost 53 million scientists, doctors, inventors, homemakers, educators, journalists, preachers, businessmen, skilled workers, etc., etc., etc. What effect do you think that has had on the nation's economy?

Would you pay for an abortion? You do. As a taxpayer, you (and I) helped pay Planned Parenthood Federation of America more than $487 million over a recent 12-month period. That facilitated 329,455 abortions by Planned Parenthood abortionists alone during that same period. And it netted Planned Parenthood a hefty $18.5 million profit. (They are the biggest – but not the only – abortion mill.)

Will this change? Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List – a pro-life organization lobbying Congress to stop tax dollars flowing to Planned Parenthood – says, "Despite an unprecedented effort by statewide and federal leaders to defund them, a wave of former employees willing to testify against them, and uniform agreement amongst Republican presidential candidates that they should be defunded, Planned Parenthood continues full-steam ahead."

And one must wonder — why are they getting tax dollars to help fund this ongoing slaughter in the first place? Or are those in government so rabidly anti-God that they've just blinded themselves to what's actually happening?

This Sunday – January 22nd – is "Sanctity of Human Life" Sunday, observed in churches throughout the United States. It marks 39 years – to the day – since the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling legalizing abortion.

Please resolve to take a stand against abortion in all forms, and especially its involuntary funding by taxpayers. There are plenty of Christian counselors offering alternatives to abortion. And every life is extremely precious to God.

Even one life — the life you may help save — could be used of God in a mighty way. You might even help save the life of another next-generation unconventional Christian evangelist — like Tim Tebow.
