the weekend of Jan. 9th & 10th, 2010: |
I always enjoy our visits with Legacy
Five, our Featured Artists on this broadcast. Under Scott Fowler's
leadership, these guys "can do the job." The singing is always exceptional
and there is a clear expression of purpose in what they do. That latter aspect
is expressed well in the songs they've chosen for their new "Just Stand"
CD. Even that title says it all that we, as Christians, are to
simply stand firm for what we believe and what is right during a time when
so much around us is going the other way. I was especially taken by that
song they included called "Statement Of Faith." This stirring anthem
simply states foundational Christian beliefs. The presentation is enhanced
by the inclusion vocally of the Hoppers, Greater Vision and
the Booth Brothers. As Scott Howard mentioned on the program,
the inclusion of these other artists makes it sound as if they are speaking
for all of Southern Gospel music and, of course, we hope this is the
case. "When They Found Nothing," Legacy Five's new radio single, is
another great new song looking at an old truth in a fresh new way.
We just mentioned it in passing, but Legacy Five is celebrating ten
full years of singing. Because Scott Fowler and the late Roger
Bennett formed the group when the Cathedrals retired (they were part
of that quartet) that means it's been a full ten years since the Cathedrals.
It's hard to believe ten years have passed so quickly. It's also difficult
to believe that three members of that classic quartet the late Glen
Payne, George Younce and Roger Bennett are no longer with
us. The Cathedrals will always have a special place in the hearts of long-time
Southern Gospel fans myself included.

On
this broadcast we mentioned that we are calling January "Station Appreciation
Month" on The Gospel Greats program. The Gospel Greats
is only heard on your local station because the station itself has invited
us to be there. That means they will only continue carrying the program as
long as listeners such as yourself tell them you enjoy the program. So, this
month, especially but, really, whenever you have the opportunity
please write to your local station on which you hear The
Gospel Greats and tell they how much you appreciate it. This will help
them keep the program by being able to show their local sponsors that there
are many listeners. That will help us. And you (and your friends) will be
able to continue hearing The Gospel Greats program each week. Please
do it now. Thank you.
