From the program the weekend of Dec. 26th & 27th, 2009: This broadcast was part one of our special countdown of the 40 most popular Southern Gospel songs in the land, according to Singing News magazine. As you know, the Singing News compiles a monthly top 80 chart. The full-year chart is developed from the charting points each song accumulates through the year. They have been kind enough to provide this special compilation for our use each year for almost three decades now, and we certainly do appreciate their help. Part two of this special countdown — taking us all the way to the number one song for the year — will be heard next weekend. Please note that some stations use both of these weekly programs as a straight-through four-hour countdown on New Year's eve or New Year's day. This would be in addition to the individual programs' airings at the regular time slot for The Gospel Greats.
