From the broadcast the weekend of May 10th & 11th, 2008:

Click for Bates Family Our Featured Artists on this program were the Bates Family from Winchester, Virginia, including brothers Tim, his wife, LaDonna, and Tim's brother, Tony, seen in the photo at right when they visited our studios for their interview. If you ever get a chance to visit with these folks, please do. I've described them as a "miracle family," because each of them (as you heard on the program) has a story of a miracle healing that they've personally experienced. To see and hear Tony playing the piano (although he was born with malformed fingers), to hear Tim singing (although doctors said he could never do that after a gunshot accident) and to hear LaDonna talk about her healthy child (which doctors urged her to abort) bears testimony of God at work in their lives. More information about them can be found online at www.thebatesfamilyministries.com. (Photo credit: Jason Heil.)

Click for Springside The Bates Family's CD featured on this program, "This Place," is available from our mailorder service, Springside. You can order easily from our webstore by clicking on this link to go directly to this item. (Orders over $40 in the USA qualify for free shipping.)

This program was our annual "Salute to Moms," coming as it does on or about the time of the Mother's Day observance in both the USA and Canada. It was great to hear from several moms on the program (who are also artists) with their thoughts on mothering, thoughts about their children and fond remembrances of childhood. Some versions of this program included a song Squire Parsons wrote to honor his mother, Maysel McCune Parsons. The chorus says what all of us with godly mothers could say:

Mother, thank you for praying
Thank you for staying
Down on your knees
Till God heard your pleas.
Thank you for caring
Thank you for sharing
All my burdens, my failures
And my victories.

And the second verse is a prayer:

I ask the Lord to bless you and keep you
All of the days that you have down here
And when you go to heaven
Where crowns will be given
God will bless you for every tear.

On the Headline Update I mentioned the Gospel Music Trust Fund, an organiation which has, over the years, provided essential assistance to many Gospel music artists who have suffered catastrophic medical expenses. More information about how you can help, or information about applying for assistance (if qualified), can be found online at www.gospelmusictrustfund.org.
